Woodford Reserve Releases new Batch Proof expression

There is a new expression from the Woodford Reserve Limited-Edition Batch Proof Series. What collection is it part of? What exactly is a batch proof? What does it taste like?

Batch Proof: bourbon bottle on a barrelThe New Woodford Reserve Batch Proof expression is part of the Master’s Collection series. This particular series celebrates Master Distiller Chris Morris’ vision and Woodford Reserve’s commitment to innovation and craftsmanship.

First introduced in 2018, this process blends barrels and presents the liquid at its actual proof. This year it is at 123.2.

“Most people do not get to experience the intensity of the aromas and the smoothness of the whiskey at a higher proof point. With this innovative release, whiskey lovers will have the chance to taste Woodford Reserve the way the masters taste it,” Chris Morris said.

Batch Proof is crafted by using the same grain bill and process as Woodfod Reserve Kentucky Straight Bourbon. However, Batch Proof takes Woodford Reserve’s trademark flavor range of sweet vanilla and toasted oak to a whole new level. This series provides consumers the tasting of Woodford Reserve in its purest form and not the standard 90.4 for which Woodford is known for.

Tasting Notes for new expression:

  • Color: Deep Coffee Amber
  • Aroma: Rich oak, overripe banana and marzipan, with hints of orange oil dusted graham cracker and dried cherry.
  • Taste: Dried apricot drizzled with rich dark chocolate layered over toasted hazelnuts and coffee with faint flavors of cinnamon and clove.
  • Finish: A long finish of spearmint and sweet cedar wood.
